Public Meeting Notice
Greater Portland Transit District METRO is scheduling public meeting on the establishment of a policy for bus stop placement across our system. This policy may change the locations or remove certain bus stops that are spaced too close together or do not meet other guidelines for riders.

Following public meetings and pending board approval, these changes are scheduled to begin in October 2014. Input from current riers and transit supporters are encouraged and appreciated.

Public meetings regarding this policy are scheduled for:
Monday, September 15 - 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.
Portland Public Library - Meeting Room 5
5 Monument Square, Portland

Tuesday, September 16 - 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.
Walker Memorial Library - Westbrook
800 Maine Street

POETRY in MOTION (C)

Poetry-in-Motion-Bus-Sign-Portland Public Library in partnership with the Poetry Society of America, METRO and South Portland Bus Service, is featuring interior bus signs with selected poems. Launched in 1992 by Poetry Society of American and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Poetry in Motion (c) is today one of the most popular public literary programs in American history.

Poetry in Motion (c) places poetry in the transit systems of cities throughout the country, helping to create a national readership for both emerging and established poets. Over the past 20 years, the program has appeared in over twenty cities including: Amherst, Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Boise, Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Hartford, Houston, Jacksonville, Little Rock, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, Philadelphia, Portland, Salt Lake City, the Twin Ciities and Washington D.C.

The May 2014 Regional Transit Guide will be available at the METRO office, METRO Pulse and other locations throughout the region. METRO Routes #1, #2 & #5 schedules have been updated effective May 11, 2014.

Greater Portland Transit District METRO Names New General Manager

Gregory M. Jordan of Tempe, Arizona has been selected by the board of directors of Greater Portland Transit District as METRO's new general manager. Mr. Jordan has more than twenty years experience in the transportation industry. Currently, he works as the Deputy Public Works Director for the City of Tempe, Arizona where he provides leadership and strategic direction for Tempe's multi-model transit program. His extensive background working for the City of Tempe includes developing and growing transit systems, fiscal sustainability, advancing transit regionalization and strategic management. His first day at METRO will be Tuesday, September 3.

METRO Board of Directors

The Board of Directors of the Greater Portland Transit District (Metro) elected new officers at its December board meeting.

Elected to two-year terms are: Bonny Rodden, president; Ed Suslovic, vice-president; John Thompson Jr., secretary and Paul Bradbury, treasurer.
